DRINKING WATER

Options for improving your water

There is good news when it comes to the options available for improving your drinking water.

Carbon Filters
Activated carbon filters come in a wide variety of sizes and qualities.  Most can reduce chlorine, tastes, and odors in the water.  Some of the better filters can also remove lead and VOCs as well.

Be careful, however, as many claims of carbon filters tend to get overstated in advertising.  For example it is very easy for most filters to remove large particles in the water including lead particles.  However, most lead is not in the form of a particle but is actually dissolved in the water.  Most filters cannot remove this type of lead, although some of the better type can.

Buyer beware – you usually get what you pay for with filters.  All carbon filters have a finite live.  Filter cartridges must be changed regularly to ensure optimum contaminant reduction. Some systems eliminate guesswork by metering the volume and shutting off the filter when a change is necessary.

Distillation Systems
Distillation systems boil water to produce steam which can reduce contaminants, then condense the steam that results and collect the water in a storage tank. Since many elements don't vaporize, they don't rise with the steam. These units operate independently from a home's plumbing and are generally placed at the point of water use. Distillers can use a lot of energy, may radiate heat and must be cleaned regularly.  Another problem with distillers comes when certain man-made chemicals are in water to be distilled, such as gasoline, pesticides, VOC’s etc.   These substances are volatile and can boil off before or at the same time as the water and are condensed with the product water – thereby contaminating it.

Reverse Osmosis (RO) Systems

RO systems are recommended by the Centers for Disease Control as one of the most effective ways of protecting residential drinking water. They utilize a semi-permeable membrane to reduce contaminants. When water is forced against the membrane, a portion of it passes through, while impurities are left behind and are automatically flushed away.

It’s time to clear your pours.

Great tasting water is now as close as your kitchen tap, and so is the peace of mind that you’re providing your family with the best quality water possible.

Kinetico drinking water products offer the ultimate in protection. Our Drinking Water System Plus models feature state-of-the-art reverse osmosis technology, which is recognized as the most effective at reducing a wide variety of contaminants. Our Drinking Water Filter models provide compact, economical water filtration. No other in-home water treatment products offer you as much protection, convenience and reliability.

Kinetico systems significantly reduce unwanted substances such as lead, nitrate, MTBE, VOC's, cryptosporidium, chlorine, tastes and odors leaving you with only clean, great tasting water. And Kinetico water is dispensed directly from the tap so you can have it when you want it, 24 hours a day, for everything from drinking water and ice cubes to water used in your favorite recipes.
